As the marketer for Bath Fitter, Mississippi, I have been their "fish captain" for over a year. Once a month I conduct a motivational meeting using The Fish Philosophy, which can be found at the following link:

Provide an Overview of Technology Skills

My experience with html and blogging is new as of construction of this website! Otherwise, I am proficient in all Microsoft applications, along with many other business software systems such as accounting systems, projection systems for seminar delivery, and point of sale systems.

Update as of June 2010
I began a new position with Verizon Wireless in June of 2010.  Technology related to school systems is described here, below, and under the Technology Integration page.

4. Question: What technologies do you have you had experience with in school systems? In Katy, Texas, Verizon Wireless provided aircards to make the laptops for students internet accessible. Verizon also works in conjunction with Cradlepoint. Cradlepoint creates a wireless mobile broadband router that allows 32-300 users to have internet access, completely wirelessly. Several American schools are beginning to look into these for school bus installations so that students can work on school work on their transit, and better utilize their time. Verizon also has technology for vehicle tracking systems to put in place in school buses for a fraction of the cost of the traditional "black box" setup for fleet management. It would allow the school to find the best route for buses to save fuel, tell the school if the bus driver is speeding, and create a breadcrumb trail of everywhere the bus went.

5. Question: What are your technology compentencies/affiliations? I work for Verizon Wireless, who is the most innovative wireless communications company in the U.S. Although not a network engineer, a data specialist, or an IT person, I use, sell, and teach customers how to use wireless applications of all kinds to better manage theit time, their businesses, and their lives. We have about 50 solution alliance partners that we work with, such as Cradlepoint, mentioned in number 4 that generates mobile broadband technology to multiple users. We install and operate personal Mifi devices for 5 users to have internet. One partner is named Cortado - they allow you to connect to a printer or fax machine wirelessly via bluetooth from your cell phone to print work on paper. That could be quite useful in school! There are many, many others, but the Cortado printing and wireless routing would be two useful examples in schools.

You as a Reflective Practitioner

My only teaching experience is with UCA, teaching and coaching cheerleading.  I thoroughly enjoy when a student masters something I have taught them, and that particular sense of accomplishment is immeasurable.

Description of Service to your Institution or Community
The following is a description of service to my community and also, evidence of INTASC Standard 10

Parental involvement in students' lives is important because students need support and guidance.  Parents should serve as role models to their children and teach community involvement as well.  Families and communities that work together to achieve goals, success, and happiness stay together and thrive.  Geraldine Seal, my mother is a great example of the parental role model.

When I was in elementary school, the auditorium at Clark College, an educational facility for the Mississippi Baptist Association, hosted productions by the Newton Little Theatre.  When Clark College closed, my mother motivated me and a few others to clean out and restore the old Roxy theatre in Newton, Mississippi, so that we may continue to be an active theatre company in the community. The Roxy had been closed for years and had loads of debris and nonoperational movie equipment.  We sold large, golden stars to fund the massive remodel.  Each star was engraved with the name it's buyer.  Later the engraved stars were paved into the sidewalk at the entrance of the new Roxy.    Today, the restored Roxy is still the home of Newton Little Theatre, which remains active in the community and produces several plays each year for both adults and children to be involved in. The Roxy in Newton, Mississippi is pictured below:

From a member of a troop of girl scouts known as Brownies, to a Cadet in American Girl Scout troop number 53, I practiced community involvement and fundraising techniques shaped around local interests in a small town in central Mississippi. Later, through out junior high, high school, and undergraduate school, I maintained well above average grades, simultaneously managing at least one sport, and at least part time employment. I believe in the success of a well-rounded individual who has the ability to relate to different social groups. Priority, time management, and motivational skills are three key elements of success that youth need leadership through example. My affiliate programs such as girl scouts, sports, appropriately managed cheerleading programs, mentoring, and youth groups provide many social and community development opportunities. Our students, as well as simply young people in our society, need more advocates for participation in these programs to help encourage their development.

It is equally important that teachers attempt to provide role model examples in the community by having quest speakers or field trips within the community.  For example, in high school, our mock trial leader was not a teacher, but a lawyer from the community.  Our government teacher recruited Robert L. Logan, the city attorney, to lead our team to competition.  He allowed us to meet in his office in a board room to inspire us about our trial and brainstorm in an appropriate setting.  He provided us with guidance throughout the process which gave us a direct tie to a professional in our community, which was also refreshing simply because he took the time to help us.  We were thankful, we had a great time in a learning environment, and we did well at competition because of it.

Here is a third and final written example of community service and involvement to satisfy INTASC Standard Number 10:  As an adult in Rankin County and a member of the Rankin County Chamber of Commerce, I have served on the Business Advocacy Committee. Committee members meet and travel to several businesses in Rankin County each month, to assess their needs from the chamber and from the community.  Results are brought back to the chamber and assessed during the monthly meeting.  If there are requests from the community, the chamber rallies to meet them  I also volunteer at the annual Hinds Community College Career Fair, which gives high school seniors the opportunity to survey careers and educational paths to gain those careers.  This fair is held at the Rankin County Campus of Hinds Community College.

In conclusion, parental involvement, community involvement in students success, and students involvement in the community lead to healthy civic understanding and strong sense of community which not only helps development of the student, but benefits the entire community.
